Online Workshop – 1.5 CE Credits

Fee: $25/person

Featured Presenter: Jocelyn Broadwick

Session Description: At least 4.2% of Marylanders identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. Members of LGBTQIA+ communities experience intimate partner violence at rates higher than the general population. The people around and within these communities must be prepared to respond to intimate partner violence appropriately and in a way that recognizes how abuse can impact members of LGBTQIA+ communities differently.

In this training, you’ll learn how to respond with cultural humility, kindness, and empathy when working with LGBTQIA+ survivors of intimate partner violence, and examine the specific barriers these communities may face when seeking help.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this presentation, the participant will be able to:

  • Define cultural humility and implicit bias
  • Describe ways intimate partner violence impacts LGBTQIA+ communities
  • Identify barriers LGBTQIA+ survivors may face in accessing comprehensive survivor services
  • Demonstrate effective ways to work with LGBTQIA+ clients
