When you enroll as a Volunteer with the Pro Bono Counseling Project, you are part of a movement to improve access to mental health care in Maryland.
Our network of over 800 participating clinicians donates over 9,000 hours of their time each year to improve the lives of Marylanders in need of counseling.
The Pro Bono Counseling Project relies on your generous contributions to allow us to continue our services to clients in need.
The Pro Bono Counseling project offers undergraduate and graduate level internships. Undergraduate internships are usually one or two semesters in duration; the graduate internship must continue for at least a full academic year.
Summer internships are also available. Internships are unpaid.
The undergraduate-level internship is designed for students majoring in psychology or social work. Interns will help with case management by managing and updating resources for clients, assisting with interviewing clients in treatment to gather qualitative and quantitative information, and presenting cases to volunteer therapists. Interns may also assist with continuing education workshops.
For Graduate Students
The graduate-level internship is a clinical experience designed for students of psychology, social work, and professional counseling. Interns will gain experience in conducting intake interviews and documenting services. Under the supervision of a board-approved clinician, interns will also provide therapy to clients in a private practice setting.
The Pro Bono Counseling project always welcomes inquiries about student internships. Please send your resume and cover letter to Sherri Bloom at firstname.lastname@example.org or Call (410) 825-1001 to learn when the next internship position will be available.
