Making the decision to reach out for mental health counseling can be a vital first step to improving your overall emotional and mental well-being. It has been proven, both anecdotally and scientifically, of the benefits, effectiveness, and often life-changing impact counseling can have on a person.

Pro Bono Counseling’s mission is to remove barriers and provide relief by connecting Marylanders to mental health support. When you contact Pro Bono Counseling (PBC) for assistance, our goal is to ensure that you receive the mental health care and resources that will work for you.

“We really are your mental health connection, linking you to the support you need,” stated PBC Clinical Director Sherri Bloom. “That’s why once you are matched with a mental health clinician, our team will continue to follow up to ensure your needs are being met.”

PBC’s trained clinical members will contact you once you’ve started your counseling sessions, asking a series of questions to gauge both the success of the match and value you are experiencing. Our staff want you to know we are available to assist you when needed.

Recently a woman in her 40’s called PBC seeking a counselor to help her develop tools to manage symptoms of depression and to address previous traumas she had experienced. She was connected with a therapist based upon her requests and attended counseling sessions via teletherapy.

When a clinical team member called to enquire how she was doing since starting therapy, the client shared how well the experience has been for her.

“I absolutely love my therapist, she is amazing,” she reported. “She makes herself available when I need her, she’s amazing about communication, she’s flexible, she’s patient. I can see where I’m making progress. Other people in my life have commented on the progress I’ve made.”

Team members also ask for feedback on how helpful your interactions are with PBC using a rating scale of 1 of not very helpful to 5 being very helpful.

“I would give you a 5 twice because you followed up with me and made sure I got the help,” the woman responded. “Especially given the fact that I’m getting this call right now to see if I got the help I needed.”

If you’d like to request counseling services, call PBC at 410.825.1001 weekdays between 8AM – 4PM, to schedule a confidential phone interview.
