Pro Bono Counseling (PBC), a nonprofit organization that links Marylanders experiencing difficulty accessing mental health care with volunteer licensed counselors and other resources, announces the appointment of a new member to its Board of Directors: Kiera A. Manison.
“It is with great pleasure that we welcome Kiera to the Board,” stated PBC Board President Eboni Barksdale-Smith, CRCCPA. “Kiera’s extensive experience in the health care industry and passion for mental wellness will greatly support PBC’s mission and vision as well as help us meet the strategic goals of the organization.”
Kiera A. Manison is an accomplished global project leader known for delivering creative and impactful solutions across enterprise organizations. With experience spanning the full project lifecycle—from initial discovery to successful execution—Kiera is responsible for day-to-day management, operational strategy, and process optimization.
A graduate of Howard University’s School of Communications, Kiera has built a diverse career spanning the technology, financial services, media, entertainment, and healthcare industries. She currently holds the position as a Delivery Manager on the Global Commercial Operations team at a leading healthcare company. In this role, she drives operational strategy to deliver impactful commercial marketing content for one of the company’s flagship oncology brands.
Beyond her corporate experience, Kiera is passionate about mental health and wellness, particularly within the Black community. Recognizing the uniquely marginalized experiences of Black people in the United States, she is committed to fostering meaningful change.
“I feel it is important to empower future Black generations to not only survive, but thrive with a healthy mind and body,” Kiera stated. “I chose to serve on PBC’s board of directors because I deeply align with its mission to remove barriers to mental health support for all people, while emphasizing the critical importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion.”
PBC’s Board of Directors is led by Board President Eboni Barksdale-Smith, CRCCPA, Vice President Amory Cockrell, CPRM, and Secretary Shane Tanzymore.
Pro Bono Counseling (PBC), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, was founded in 1991 to ensure that Marylanders with limited resources requesting mental health care are provided access to volunteer licensed mental health professionals and other necessary supportive services. Since then, PBC has helped match thousands of individuals and families throughout Maryland with the most appropriate counselors, based on their specific needs, and helped them obtain the mental health care they could not otherwise afford.
PBC serves anyone in Maryland who is facing difficulties paying for counseling – including individuals of all ages, as well as couples, and families– through connections to volunteer mental health therapists for free counseling to address mental health concerns, including stress, anxiety, sadness, grief, life transitions, relationship issues, or any other issue that can be addressed through therapy. PBC has a network of more than 900 volunteer licensed mental health counselors, covering a range of specialties, located all throughout Maryland. Counseling services are offered in person, where available, and via video conferencing and telephone.
