Presenter Bio: Harriet Mauer, MA Psychology, MSW, LCSW

In a career spanning over 50 years, Harriet Mauer has been a clinical social worker for children, adolescents and families; a clinical supervisor; and administrator/clinical director, and a child welfare government relations specialist and advocate. Much of her career was spent at Good Shepherd Services (GSS), a youth development agency that, at the time of her retirement, served over 40,000 children, adolescents, young adults, and families in New York City. She rose through the ranks to become the Director of Social Services for the therapeutic residential programs, the position from which she retired in 2011.

When Ms. Mauer joined GSS in 1970, the agency had 2 small programs serving adolescents and families at one location. Over the years, as part of the agency Senior Leadership Group, she was involved in strategic planning and program development. She participated in the evolution of the agency to 70 programs primarily in Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan, NYC. Several of the programs began as innovative/demonstration projects that have since been replicated locally, nationally, and internationally. Detailed information about the agency can be found at www.goodshepherds.org.

In addition to her leadership at GSS, she was recognized within NYC and NYS as an expert in child welfare policy and practices.

Since her retirement, Ms. Mauer has been active as a volunteer in NYC/NYS child and family advocacy. She provides consultation, supervision, mentoring and coaching. She is a consultant field tester for Relias, Morrisville, N.C., an international organization that provides online continuing education and workforce tools for social service and mental health organizations.

Ms. Mauer received her Bachelor of Arts degree from McGill University, Montreal, Canada, MA Psychology from The New School, and Masters of Social Work from Hunter College School of Social Work.
