Session Description: Technology-facilitated abuse is a significant and harmful trend in intimate partner violence. In this session, providers will develop foundational knowledge and skills regarding tech-facilitated abuse, assessment, and safety planning, as well as best practices in remote services provision. It will integrate aspects on the intersections of these issues and Jewish identity and community.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this workshop, the participant will be able to:
- Identify common technology misuses in the context of domestic violence.
- Demonstrate effective use of a technology abuse assessment framework and technology safety planning strategies through applying them to 2 scenarios.
- Assess and revise provision of remote services to incorporate 3 technology safety principles.
Presenter Bio: Jessie Lowell, PhD
Dr. Jessie Lowell (they or she) joined NNEDV as a Technology Safety Specialist in July 2022. They were previously a Housing Pathways advocate at The Network/La Red, a domestic violence program serving LGBTQ+, polyamorous, and BDSM communities. They were a hotline volunteer there from 2014-2020 and 2022-2023. Jessie volunteered previously with the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center as an advocate/trainer, and Operation: Safe Escape as the open-source intelligence lead/a digital safety advocate. Since 2018, they have assisted journalists, activists, musicians, librarians, and more, with security and digital privacy.
Jessie is an IAPP Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT). They have a PhD in computer science from Brandeis University, and completed a computational epidemiology postdoc at the Harvard Chan School of Public Health. At NNEDV they assist gender-based violence programs throughout the US. They participate in multiple technology standards bodies and have advised UNFPA on technology standards strategy for combatting gender-based violence.

*CHANA, an agency of The Associated, has been awarded a grant to partner with Pro Bono Counseling to provide a series of continuing education workshops on various topics for mental health clinicians related to working with victims/survivors of domestic violence. All workshops are free for mental health clinicians.

EVENT INSTRUCTIONS
Workshop registrants will receive a code prior to the webinar to log on to Zoom and participate in the online session.
IMPORTANT: Attendance will be monitored. Participants must be logged on to the meeting by the workshop start time and participate in the entire event in order to earn CE credit.
Pro Bono Counseling is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Pro Bono Counseling maintains responsibility for this program and its content. The Maryland Boards of Social Work Examiners and Professional Counselors and Therapists certify that this program meets the criteria for two (2) credit hours of continuing education for social workers (Category 1), professional counselors, and therapists (Category A – pending) licensed in Maryland.
CE credit is granted to participants with documented attendance at individual workshops. Attendance is monitored. Credit will not be granted to registrants who log on late or depart early from a session. It is the responsibility of registrants to comply with these requirements.
