Descripción de la SesiónEste webinar ha sido desarrollado de manera personalizada para apoyar el increíble trabajo de los proveedores bilingües de salud mental que brindan servicios clínicos en español dentro de la comunidad Latina/x/e/Hispana que reside en los Estados Unidos pero que han recibido entrenamiento clínico en English.

El objetivo del webinar es proporcionar una comunidad de apoyo para los profesionales bilingües de salud mental que ofrecen consejería pro bono en Maryland a clientes sin seguro. Muchos programas de formación en salud mental no preparan adecuadamente a los proveedores para trabajar con poblaciones diversas y menos en un segundo idioma. Los modelos terapéuticos occidentales no siempre son efectivos para los clientes de la comunidad Latina/x/e/Hispana. Los proveedores bilingües necesitan revisar continuamente sus enfoques para que sean más culturalmente relevantes y receptivos a las necesidades de sus clientes. Durante el webinar, se proporcionará educación y normalización sobre las mejores prácticas culturalmente sensibles y receptivas al servir a esta comunidad, que enfrenta continuamente discriminación y opresión sistémica basada en su raza, etnicidad, estatus migratorio, idioma, creencias y valores, y tradiciones.

Al finalizar este webinar, los participantes estarán mejor equipados para ofrecer un cuidado culturalmente competente y practicar la humildad cultural, promoviendo así el bienestar y la resiliencia de la comunidad Latina/x/e/Hispana.

  • Explicar los desafíos para los proveedores de salud mental que brindan servicios de consejería en español dentro de la comunidad Latina/x/e/Hispana después de recibir una formación centrada en Occidente.
  • Describir dos o más consideraciones clínicas y culturales para trabajar con clientes Latinos/x/e/Hispanos que reciben consejería pro bono.
  • Articular dos o más mejores prácticas culturalmente receptivas para trabajar con clientes Latinos/x/e/Hispanos que reciben consejería pro bono.

Presenter Bio: Dr. Lyda Holguin-Gaviria

Dr. Lyda Holguin-Gaviria (she, her, hers) is a counselor educator and supervisor, who is a licensed clinical professional counselor in Maryland, and a National Board-Certified Counselor. She proudly identifies herself as an immigrant in the United States. Dr. Holguin-Gaviria completed her Ph.D. in counseling at The George Washington University and master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling at Villanova University. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from The Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Cali-Colombia. She also attended the English Language Institute at the University of Delaware where she learned English as a second language and with academic purposes. Currently, she is completing a postdoctoral fellowship at the Florida Atlantic University teaching counseling courses for doctoral and master level students. She is trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Parent Child Interaction Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) evidence-based interventions to support children and families exposed to single and complex trauma. Dr. Holguin-Gaviria has experience providing clinical services in outpatient, inpatient, community-based, school, and private practice settings. Her clinical and research interests are dedicated to understanding mental health issues in immigrants and minoritized populations compromised as a result of trauma, racism, poverty, and other remarkable factors associated with the process of cultural adjustment (e.g., barriers with language, legal status, finding jobs, and accessing education and health). Dr. Holguin-Gaviria is also interested in promoting research that is more inclusive and accurately represents the heterogeneity and diversity of Latinxs in their research samples.

Workshop registrants will receive a code prior to the webinar to log on to Zoom and participate in the online session.

IMPORTANT: Attendance will be monitored. Participants must be logged on to the meeting by the workshop start time and participate in the entire event in order to earn CE credit.

Pro Bono Counseling is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Pro Bono Counseling maintains responsibility for this program and its content. The Maryland Boards of Social Work Examiners and Professional Counselors and Therapists certify that this program meets the criteria for three (3) credit hours of continuing education for social workers (Category 1 ), professional counselors, and therapists (Category A ) licensed in Maryland.

CE credit is granted to participants with documented attendance at individual workshops. Attendance is monitored. Credit will not be granted to registrants who log on late or depart early from a session. It is the responsibility of registrants to comply with these requirements.
