There are many reasons why people reach out to Pro Bono Counseling (PBC) to request mental health care counseling. Some of the most cited reasons are due to experiencing anxiety, stress, sadness, grief, relationship issues, or dealing with past trauma. And PBC’s priority is to connect you with the mental health support that suits you best.
More than 900 licensed mental health clinicians are currently enrolled as Pro Bono Counseling volunteers, each with diverse backgrounds as well as varied and distinct areas of expertise, skills, and specialties. During the enrollment process, volunteers indicate the type of cases they would like to assist with by donating counseling services.
“We are able to provide the most appropriate match between a client and the clinician because PBC volunteers represent such a vast array of mental health resources, from the areas they specialize in, to the therapy approaches they utilize, to the populations they assist with,” explained Clinical Director Sherri Bloom.
Recently a woman in her 30’s called PBC seeking a safe space to process past experiences and specifically requested a trauma-informed therapist. She reported to the staff member that she was having a difficult time finding an available clinician with this specialty.
PBC was able to match her with a volunteer clinician who specialized in this type of care. After she had participated in several sessions, team members contacted her to check on her progress.
“I do think it’s going very well — I’m very excited about the relationship I’m forming with my therapist, mainly because I needed a trauma-informed specialist, and she clearly understands trauma in a way that no other therapist I’ve worked with ever had,” she stated. “I’m feeling hopeful and excited.”
