Julie Bindeman, PsyD – “The Invisible Wounds of Pregnancy Loss”
Dr. Julie Bindeman graduated from the George Washington University and is the co-owner of the practice Integrative Therapy of Greater Washington located in Rockville, Maryland. As a result of her own reproductive story, she pursued post-graduate training in the field of Reproductive Psychology, where she actively writes, lectures, and presents on the topic. She has been on several committees for the Mental Health Professional Group of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine including serving as Chair of the Continuing Education Committee and is the incoming chair for the Social Media committee; she served as a Board Member of the Maryland Psychological Association for over 8 years and is currently the Co-Chair of the Legislative Committee. Additionally, Dr. Bindeman was the first Early Career Psychologist Committee Chair for MPA. She has been on other boards including Uprooted and JCADA. Additionally, Dr. Bindeman is a member of a variety of organizations that are focused on Maternal Mental Health. She was appointed by the Governor of Maryland to serve on the Maternal Mental Health Task Force representing psychologists in the state. In 2014, Dr. Bindeman was honored to receive both the Woman Who Dared Award conferred to her by the National Council of Jewish Women and the Volunteer of the Year Award from the Maryland Psychological Association. She authored a chapter in the book, “Prenatal and Preimplantation Diagnosis: The Burden of Choice”. (Springer)
Tavi Hawn, LCWS-C – “Queering Family Building: Supporting LGBTQ+ Clients in the Process”
Tavi Hawn received their Master’s Degree in Social Work from University of Washington in Seattle. For the past 10 years they were involved in grassroots work in North Carolina, including founding a summer camp for LGBTQ+ youth following anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, lobbying for the repeal of House Bill 2, and speaking on radio shows and press conferences for trans rights. Tavi also founded an LGBTQ+ healing center in Durham, NC and currently works as a therapist and trainer in Towson, MD addressing gender identity, family building, and healing from cultural trauma and oppression.
William Petok, PhD – “The Psychological Impact of Infertility on Individuals and Couples”
Bill Petok earned his doctorate at the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1978. His post- doctoral training includes a year at the Family Therapy Institute of Washington, D.C. and at Sheppard & Enoch Pratt Hospital in the Sexual Dysfunctions Clinic. In full time independent practice since 1984, he is a Clinical Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.
Dr. Petok served for 10 years as a board member of Path 2 Parenthood, formerly the American Fertility Association, and as a member of the Executive Council of the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology for 8 years. He has chaired and served as faculty on multiple post graduate courses that focus on sexuality and assisted reproductive technologies at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine’s annual meetings.
Bill is a fellow of the Maryland Psychological Association, member of the American Psychological Association, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality. He is a Diplomate and Founding Fellow of the American Board of Sexology.
Dr. Petok’s other professional activities include the co-production of two films for training therapists, multiple journal articles, and regular presentations at state, national and international conferences. He’s published chapters in texts on Reproductive Endocrinology, Sexuality and Infertility Counseling. He has a special fondness for teaching OB/GYN residents, something he’s done since 1984 in various settings.
Dr. Petok is a past Chair of the Mental Health Professional Group of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and is a regular reviewer for Fertility and Sterility and other professional journals.
Hilary Waller, LPC – “Perinatal Mental Health”
Hilary Waller is a Director of Programming and a training associate at The Postpartum Stress Center in Rosemont, PA. She conducts workshops and trainings for maternal mental healthcare providers as well as non-clinical staff working with a perinatal population. Also, Hilary serves as assistant instructor to Karen Kleiman for post-graduate trainings offered by The Postpartum Stress Center to clinicians across the US and abroad. Hilary is a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in the treatment of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. She provides individual, marital, and group therapy services at The Postpartum Stress Center.
