The Pro Bono Counseling Project (PBCP) is pleased to announce the election of a new member to its Board of Directors, Sunil Khushalani, MBBS, MD, DFAPA, FASAM.

“Pro Bono Counseling’s mission is to ensure that Marylanders with limited resources requesting mental health care are provided access to volunteer licensed mental health professionals and other necessary supportive services,” states PBCP Board President Peter Kahn, MD. “I am excited to welcome Dr. Khushalani who will work together with the board to ensure that quality mental health care is available for all those in need and help us meet the new fundraising goals of our 2020 campaign.”

Dr. Khushalani completed his medical school in India in 1991 from G.S. Medical College, Mumbai University. He completed his residency at the Department of Psychiatry at New York University Medical Center/Bellevue Hospital in 1997. He is board certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is also certified, by examination by the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

Currently, he serves as the Medical Director of the Adult Service Line at Sheppard Pratt. He also serves a physician advisor for the Stanley Research Group at Sheppard Pratt. He is also an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He has been voted as a Top Doctor in Addiction Psychiatry by Castle Connolly and Baltimore Magazine

Dr. Khushalani is a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He is also a fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine. He is currently the chair of the Education Committee of the Maryland Society of Addiction Medicine. He is also a member of the Patient Safety Workgroup of the APA Council on Quality Care.

Since its founding in 1991, the Pro Bono Counseling Project (PBCP), a non-profit 501c(3) corporation, has helped over 30,000 individuals and families throughout Maryland connect with volunteer counselors and obtain the mental health care they could not otherwise afford. Presently, PBCP has over 800 volunteer clinicians all over the state of Maryland who give over 9,000 hours of their time each year.
