Healthy Howard is the Pro Bono Counseling Project’s newest partnership. We are honored to participate in this ground-breaking approach to health care. Healthy Howard brings together somatic, dental and mental health care for Howard County residents who have limited resources and are ineligible for federal and State entitlements.
 
Currently 72 psychologists, psychiatrists, nurse psychotherapists, clinical social workers and professional counselors in Howard County are actively participating in the Pro Bono Counseling Project and available to receive client referrals. During the past eighteen years, 98 clinicians in Howard County have participated in the Pro Bono Counseling Project and worked with Howard County residents. In the past four years, these clinicians donated 823 hours of care for 158 clients.
 
Ms. D, an educated woman with a graduate degree, suffered such an extreme anxiety attack when she was “downsized” from her job that she became overwhelmed with the fear of experiencing another attack and could not apply for a new job. She worked with her Howard County psychologist for one year. During that year, she re-gained her self-assurance, "Being in therapy has really helped me to think more clearly and now I am doing better. Therapy has helped me to see that there are a lot of ways I can live my life more fully. My therapist is a very challenging person and I like that." By the end of their year together, Ms. D applied for jobs and began a new full-time position.
